See, hear and learn about the region’s history from the Stone Age to the 1950s, with emphasis on the Viking Age, the Middle Ages and the Second World War.
Trondenes Historiske Senter is located 3 km outside the centre of Harstad in idyllic and historic surroundings. The museum provides an insight into the history of the Harstad region from our distant past up to the 1950s. The exhibition is chronological and self-explanatory. On the first floor, we mainly focus on the Viking Age and the Middle Ages , our proud history. But they also tell about our painful history on Trondenes, with the peninsula’s traces after the Second World War and a Soviet prisoner of war camp and Finnmarksbyen, a reconstruction camp from the post-war era.
Trondene’s Medieval Farm
Trondenes Middelaldergård is built in connection with the historical exhibition inside the museum. This is a reconstructed farm from approx. year 1200 based on Trondene’s history as it is known through archaeological excavations and written sources. The farm complex is now complete with a barn, a forge and a stave church. During the summer, the farm is characterized by wildlife and fields.
The Trondene cafe
The café at the museum is open during the day with a good selection of cakes and bread. We bake with smiles, laughter and lots of love, and even think we have the best coffee view in Harstad.
